Published: “Two Ways to Take”

The Hopper, a new literary magazine put out by  Green Writers Press in Brattleboro, Vermont, has published an essay that emerged from my M.S. thesis/book project.

Two Ways to Take is an essay about my time making maple syrup in the Northeast and the two very different ways to go about collecting and processing sap from sugar maple trees. I explore how the human relationship with the maple trees has changed over time and the importance of accepting sap as a gift rather than a commodity.

The editors at The Hopper were great to work with and did a beautiful job of pairing the essay with some fun, old-time sugaring photos from 1940.
